“The Truth resides in the drive that guides you to do good.”
“Intelligence gets enlightened when knowledge turns into the action of doing good.”
Sergio Felipe de Oliveira, M.D. had a dream when he was young: to create an open University without borders, investing in cultural and religious diversity and intercultural dialogue, ensuring the integration of Science and Spirituality. The challenge was the dissemination of Uniespirito University’s model to recover the knowledge from forgotten and non-hegemonic cultures achieving consciousness compatible with modern frontiers of science.
Searching for this integration, Dr. Oliveira started developing his studies aiming to understand the mechanisms of the connections between brain, body and soul. Dr. Oliveira’s master degree thesis centered upon the area of the Human Pineal Gland (USP – University of Sao Paulo). Through the outcomes of his research, Dr. Oliveira implemented a transdisciplinary approach which integrates medicine, psychology, spirituality and community.
Dr. Oliveira’s dream came true as Uniespirito (The International University of Spiritual Sciences), an open university with a very unique paradigm, unmistakably different from the conventional academic standards is now a reality. Uniespirito’s main objective is that of introducing students to spiritual integrative healthcare in Medicine and Psychology based on the interface among the biopsychosocial, cultural, functional, human diversity and spiritual systems proposed by the WHOQOL-100 Protocol (World Health Organization Quality of Life – 100 Protocol). The transdisciplinary, unlike the inter and multidisciplinary approaches includes spirituality as one of the core features in treatment. Such an approach expands the conceptualization of the human experience as a unique, meaningful, and integrative event, promoting healing, interpersonal growth, social responsibility, and global citizenship.
Sergio Felipe de Oliveira, M.D.
To be a source of knowledge that incorporates the wisdom of cultures that value spirituality, to interface with Science, in support of human rights, fueling life-changing achievements through a transdisciplinar approach.
Promote peace, quality of life, harmony with nature, social justice with human and cultural equanimity along with the integration of different cultural manifestations, ethical traditions to value life in all its forms.
Integrity, ethics and respect (non-human, cultural or religious discrimination)
Knowledge oriented to the action of solidarity, peace and love
Integration of Science and spirituality
Health promotion, the main focus of our study, is a priority proposed by the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO). The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health. Therefore, as Ottawa Charter emphasizes, health promotion is not just the responsibility of the Health Sector, but goes beyond healthy life-styles to well-being. It is important to mention that the Spiritual Dimension becomes part of health promotion. Thus, Uniespirito’s entry course follows the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) proposal. We suggest students put the concepts taught into practice by volunteering in social action projects to benefit individual, communities or society. Uniespirito is currently focusing on the following social task forces:
- Clinical Medical Training School
- Oncology Group
- Suicide Prevention Group
- Children’s, Family and Fetal Psychism Group
- Life After Death Group
- SALVA Group – Support Service for the Liberation of Addictions and Alcohol
- Well-Being Evoked Group
- Psychiatry Group
- Corporate World Group
- Complex wounds and epidermolysis bullosa care
Study and research activities
Students should select the area of interest and organize themselves around the theme of their choice based on the contents taught during the course focusing on integral health (physical health + mental health + healthy relationships + a healthy Society) and spiritual domain, according to the approaches proposed by Dr. Sergio Felipe de Oliveira, M.D., based on the researches he develops on the structure of the human pineal gland and its implications on science and health practice.
The conception of health involves the spiritual or compassionate care that involves serving the whole person – the physical, emotional, social and spiritual. Values such as the axiology of love and peace, but also the phenomenological aspect of life after death, communicability between the spiritual and corporeal world and the consequences of integrating this domain according to current scientific discoveries on this field.
Uniespirito’s Study and Research Groups aim to train and enable students to act as Health Promotors, helping their inner transformation. Plus, the School Clinic allows Health professionals to study and experience our researches by attending patients in the various health care areas.
P.S.: Sergio Felipe de Oliveira, M.D., and Health Professionals of the clinic Pineal Mind Instituto de Saude, Uniespirito’s partner, guide and supervise the works.
